Through dues and donations, the Friends of the Library help supplement the Library’s programs and services. The Friends sponsor 10-12 programs each year, including a yearly Kentucky Humanities Council program. In past years, Friends of the Library have provided a fall and spring film series featuring classic movies free of charge.
The Friends also sponsor two large book sales each year, as well as an on-going book sale. The money earned from the book sales provide the major part of funding for the various projects of the Friends of the Library. For example, in 2019 the Friends supported “A Universe of Stories” kids’ summer reading program. Special staff requests for that summer program included: 1,200 books used as giveaways, a camera, and copies of a reusable software program, Kerbal Space Program for teens. Friends funds also covered the cost of sponsorship for the Great American Swing Dance held at the library in June.
