This Week at the Library: September 24-30, 2017

The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Adult Storytime on Mondays at 9:00 a.m., Crafters Who Care on Mondays at 6:00 p.m., Coding Classes on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m., and Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:


Danville-Boyle County "Afternoon of Reflection"
Sunday, September 24th from 2:00-4:30 p.m.

The Library will host a storytelling event on Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:30 p.m. This interactive event, which is sponsored by the local Facebook memory page "You Might Be from Boyle County If…," is designed to be a casual forum where life-long residents and newcomers alike can learn about the vibrant history of Danville-Boyle County. Event participants will share stories from the past and talk about the "old times." All are invited to bring old photos, newspaper clippings, and memories to share.

This event is open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided.


Adult How-To: Nature Photography
Monday, September 25th at 6:00 p.m.

The Library offers a monthly "How-To" program series for adults where participants can explore the information and skills needed for a new hobby or activity, guided by a local expert. On Monday, September 25th at 6:00 p.m., the Library will host "Nature Photography," presented by Brian Scott. At this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics nature photography and will spend time outside taking pictures with their own camera. Participants should bring either a camera or camera phone to use at the workshop. This free program will be held in the Community Room. Register by calling the Library.


Teen Book Club
Tuesday, September 26th at 4:00 p.m.

The Teen Book Club will meet at the Library on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 pm. The book club, for ages 13-18, will be discussing Make Lemonade by Virginia Euwer Wolff. Snacks will be provided. To receive a copy of the book, please see Kinsey Hisle at the Library.


Tween Lab
Thursday, September 28th at 4:00 p.m.

The Library offers a monthly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) lab for tweens where they can try out a different experiment each month. On Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., tweens (ages 9-13) will be making 3-D Glasses to view your 3-D drawings. Those interested in attending may register for the program by signing up in the Children’s Library.

Fall Film Series: Director’s Showcase (Week 2)

The Friends of the Library continue with their annual Fall Film Series on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Films will be shown on Thursday evenings in the Community Room through mid-November. The post film discussion will be led by Charles Vahlkamp. Popcorn will be available and there is no charge for admission.

This week we'll be showing All About Eve. In this 1950 film, a supposedly innocent aspiring actress maneuvers herself into the company of an established but aging stage actress and her circle of theater friends.  A complete listing of the films in this series can be found here.


Computer Classes

In the ongoing effort to promote lifelong learning, the Library offers a wide variety of free computer classes throughout month. This week the Library is offering the following classes:

Intro. to Microsoft Excel on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 11:00 a.m.

Intro. to Microsoft PowerPoint on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 11:00 a.m.

A complete listing of monthly computer classes can be found on the Library's website. Those interested in attending any of the classes may register online or by calling the Library. In addition to these classes, one-on-one computer support is also available by appointment.
