This Week at the Library: July 11-15, 2016

The Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the summer. Weekly programs for children to be held at the Library and run through July 14th include the Kid’s Book Club on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm, the Kindergarten Summer Science Club on Thursdays at 10:00 am, and the "Try-It-Out" Club on Thursdays at 11:00 am.  In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:


Family Guided Hike at the Perryville Battlefield

Monday, July 11th at 10:00 am

The overarching theme of the 2016 Summer Reading Program is wellness, fitness, and sports. In keeping with this theme, the Library is offering guided hikes suitable for all ages. On Monday, July 11th at 10:00 am, a guided hike will be offered at the Perryville Battlefield in Boyle County. The Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site is one of the most pristine Civil War battlefields in the United States, retaining much of its wartime appearance. This guided hike will feature mild-to-moderate terrain covering just under two miles. Participation includes admission to the museum.

The Perryville Battlefield is located at 1825 Battlefield Road in Perryville, KY. Hikers will need to meet the guide at 10:00 am at the Museum entrance. Directions to the hike are available at the Library. (All ages)


Teen Challenge

Tuesday, July 12th at 10:00 am

At Teen Challenge, teens will test their knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts and engineering design abilities in this team competition. On Tuesday, July 12th at 10:00 am, teens will compete in a Tennis Challenge. (Ages 13-18)



Self-Defense for Teens

Wednesday, July 13th at 2:00 pm

The Library will host "Self-Defense for Teens" in the Community Room this Wednesday at 2:00 pm. This is the second session of a 2-part course that will cover hand-to-hand self-defense. The focus will be on countering physical bullying, robbery, and general assault. Various scenarios will be covered, primarily those likely to occur in a school or street setting. Teens who did not attend the first session are still welcome to attend this session. Registration is required to participate. Call the Library to register. (Ages 13-18)


The Space Painter

Thursday, July 14th at 1:00 pm

The Space Painter will visit the Library this Thursday at 1:00 pm. At this special event, Tom Sparough will dazzle the audience with his juggling and storytelling skills. Due to limited seating, this will be a ticketed event. Tickets are free and will be given out 30 minutes prior to the start of the show. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)



Friday, July 15th at 2:00 pm

Join us for LEGO Club on Friday, July 15th at 2:00 pm in the Storytime Room. The finished Lego creations will be placed on display in the Library. (All ages)


Murder Mystery for Teens and Adults

Friday, July 15th at 6:30 pm

On Friday, July 15, 2016 at 6:30 pm, teens and adults are invited to the after-hours murder mystery, "Death Gets a Red Card." Join your fellow detectives in figuring out who would want the star of the Varsity soccer team dead. You must investigate the crime scene and carefully examine the evidence in order to solve the crime! A pizza dinner will be served. Registration is required to attend this event. (Ages 13+)
