This Week at the Library: July 5-8, 2016

The Library offers a variety of fun, educational events throughout the summer. Weekly programs for children to be held at the Library will run through July 14th and include the Kid’s Book Club on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm, the Kindergarten Summer Science Club* on Thursdays at 10:00 am, and the "Try-It-Out" Club* on Thursdays at 11:00 am. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:


Animal Tales

Thursday, July 7th at 10:00 am (Library)

Thursday, July 7th at 12:15 pm (Junction City Elementary School)

The Library will offer two showings of Animal Tales at two separate locations. At both events, guests can get an up-close look at some exotic animals from around the world. The first program will be held at 10:00 am in the Community Room at the Library. Due to limited seating, this will be a ticketed event. Tickets are free and will be given out 30 minutes prior to the start of the show. A second showing of Animal Tales will be held later that morning at 12:15 pm at the Junction City Elementary School cafeteria in Junction City. Tickets will not be required to attend the second program. All ages are welcome to attend.

*Please note: Due to the timing of the Animal Tales program, the Kindergarten Summer Science Club and the "Try-It-Out" Club will not meet this week.


Family Guided Hike at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill

Friday, July 8th at 10:00 am

The overarching theme of the 2016 Summer Reading Program is wellness, fitness, and sports. In keeping with this theme, the Library is offering guided hikes suitable for all ages. On Friday, July 8th at 10:00 am, a guided hike will be offered at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Mercer County. Shaker Village has a 40-mile trail system that allows users of all ages and skill levels to explore at their own pace. It features family-friendly trails, a bird observation blind, Shaker mill sites, and more. Shaker Village is located at 3501 Lexington Road in Harrodsburg, KY. Hikers will need to meet the guide at 2:00 pm at the Pavilion by the parking lot. Directions to the hike are available at the Library.


Mother Goose Games

Friday, July 8th at 11:00 am

We'll be bringing nursery rhymes to life! Children will try to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, jump over a candlestick, and much more. This event will be held in the Community Room and is for ages 3-7.
