The Library to Celebrate DÍA

April 25, 2017

As the nation’s population continues to become more diverse, the Boyle County Public Library will join libraries across the country in celebration of El día de los niños, El día de los libros (Children's Day, Book Day), also known as DÍA.

The Library’s DÍA celebration will be held on Thursday, April 27th at 6:30 p.m. in the Children’s Storytime Room at the Library. Families will have the opportunity to hear a story told in two languages, try new foods, and participate in fun activities.

DÍA is a celebration of children, families, and reading. The celebration emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. DÍA is an enhancement of Children’s Day, which began in 1925. Children’s Day was designated as a day to bring attention to the importance and well-being of children. In 1996, nationally acclaimed children’s book author Pat Mora proposed linking the celebration of childhood and children with literacy to found El día de los niños, El día de los libros.

For more information about this event, contact Brittany Smith at the Library.
