Read Off Your Fines!

March 31, 2019
By BCPL

Kids, tweens, & teens can read at the Library during Spring Break (April 1-7, 2019) to earn "Book Bucks" they can use to pay their overdue fines!

How it works:

Patrons ages 5-18 can participate. For every 15 minutes read in the library, participants will earn a $2 Book Buck which can be turned in at the Circulation Desk to pay for overdue fines on their library cards (normal voucher rules apply).

Steps to earning Book Bucks:

1. Sign in at the Tree Desk — write your name, date, and the time for when you start reading.

2. Go read a book — preferably in the children’s department.

3. Sign out at the Tree Desk — Once you are finished reading, come back to the Tree Desk to sign out. Your end time will be written down. (Note: librarians will round down to the nearest 15 minute increment). Receive your Book Bucks.

4. Redeem your Book Bucks — You can redeem your Book Bucks right away. You can turn in multiple Book Bucks that you earn with every 15 minutes of reading. Book Bucks must be turned in before closing on April 7th. All Book Bucks must be turned in during the week of Read Off Your Fines.

Other details:

  • You don't have to read library books — you can bring in books from home or school to read at the library, but it does have to be a book.
  • The Book Bucks go towards overdue fines on your own Library Card, not on a friend's or family member's card.
  • The entire amount of the Book Bucks is taken when turned in.
