Kentucky Unbound: A Tutorial |

| First, we recommend that you at least watch the Guided Tour as well as read the Quick Start Guide before resorting to any of the staff at the Boyle County Public Library for help. Additionally, understanding the licensing and other free software downloads that are required for your checkouts to work is critical and included in the both the guide and the tour. | To make a selection and check out an item you must have clicked on the name of the desired item in your search results which will then open the item detail page as it would on Polaris. From there you will be provided with a concise description of the item, a list of supported devices it can be downloaded to, and it's availability (while it is a digital copy we share a select number of licenses with the 35 other libraries and availability is limited). If an item is not available for download at the moment simply place an e-hold and you will be notified when it becomes available. |

| Kentucky Unbound for Public Libraries is a consortium of 35 libraries which all pay in to provide their patrons with the added option of downloading several different file types of e-books, audiobooks, audio CDs, and video movies to their computers and an assortment of supported mobile devices. | Downloading and using your e-checkouts are dependent upon the understanding of the other necessary software that must first be on your computer before acquiring the licensing then either transfering your checkout to a mobile device or burning to another media. In order to do this, we strongly encourage that you complete the Guided Tour and review the Quick Start Guide both available on the Kentucky Unbound website. | |||||||
| In order to directly access our new online download catalog simply point your browser to http://kyunbound.lib.overdrive.com and click the login button on the top right hand corner. To login to the site a patron uses the same account that they use to login to our other local online card catalog system: Polaris. Select "Boyle County Public Library," then enter your card number and password (usually the last four digits of the phone number you used to sign up for your library card account). |
Another way to access Kentucky Unbound and our downloadable catalog is through our local and in-house card catlog system at http://www.boylecatalog.org (Polaris). All current items that now have download capabilities as well as new download items have been added to our normal catalog. When a current item listing's availability simply says "website" and has a link it means that it is available as a download and the link when clicked will take you to (after logging in if you had not already) the item description page on Kentucky Unbound for you to either place an e-hold or continue with your checkout. | |||||||
| After logging in to Kentucky Unbound you will have free access to explore all that the online catalog system has to offer in much the same way as you would if you were utilizing our in-house local Polaris system through the typical and universal search engine. | Downloads have the same policies for checkouts, and if the licensing on the file (entailed on the item description page) does not list the capability of permanently burning to another media then whatever download period you have selected under "your account" on the Kentucky Unbound website will apply to your checkout and the licensing (therfore your item) will expire after the period has ended. | |||||||
