GREAT AMERICAN READ BOOK CLUBS (FOR TWEENS & TEENS)
Monday, October 22 at 4:00 p.m. (Tweens)
Tuesday, October 22 at 4:00 p.m. (Teens)

The library will host two book clubs for the Great American Read, which features a list of America's 100 best-loved novels. Both book clubs will include trivia themed games and snacks. On Monday, October 22 at 4:00 p.m., tweens (ages 9-13) will discuss The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis. On Tuesday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m., teens (ages 13-18) will discuss Looking for Alaska by John Green. Those interested in participating in either book club can register and pick up a free book at the library.

 

ADULT HOW-TO: MAKE A HOLIDAY MEAL
Monday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m.

On Monday evening at 6:00 p.m., learn how to plan and make a delicious holiday meal, minus the stress of cooking for a crowd. Alethea Price with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office will facilitate this event.


MINDFULNESS MONDAY
Monday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m.

This monthly series combines crafting and mindfulness education. On Monday evening at 6:30 p.m., Santosh David will lead participants in making Halloween luminaries, then lead a holiday-themed meditation.

 

HALLOWEEN SCIENCE
Tuesday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., kids (ages 5-8) are invited to have some spooky science fun at the library making Halloween slime and doing experiments with candy corn. Registration is required.


HISTORY CAFÉ: "Home Movies"
Thursday, October 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the library will host the History Café. This monthly event provides a place where people can gather and chat about local history. This month is about personal history and patrons can submit their best home movies for review. Those interested in having their home movies screened should contact Mary Girard at the library to get details on supported formats.


ROBOTICS MAKERSPACE
Thursday, October 25 at 5:30 p.m.

On Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m., all ages are invited to play around with beginning coding and program robots, Dash and Dot.

 

FALL FILM SERIES: COMEDIES (Week 4)
Thursday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m.

The Friends of the Library continue with their annual Fall Film Series on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Films will be shown at the library on select Thursday evenings in the Community Room through mid-November. The films will be introduced each evening by Charles Vahlkamp, professor emeritus at Centre College. There is no charge for admission, and free popcorn will be available.

This week's movie is Roman Holiday. In this 1953 romantic comedy, a bored and sheltered princess tired of her suffocating schedule eludes her guardians for a night and falls for an American newspaper reporter in Rome.

 

COMING UP NEXT WEEK...


"HOWL-O-WEEN" DOG COSTUME CONTEST
Sunday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m.

On Sunday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m., the library will host a dog costume contest. Dogs (and their owners) who enjoy dressing up are invited to participate. Prizes will be awarded for funniest costume, most original costume, best dog/human duo, best character, and more. All dogs (and humans) must be well behaved in order to join in the fun. This event will be held in the Library Park. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the event will be moved inside to the Community Room.
