Coached by Steve Meadows, the DHS competitive speech and debate team is one of the top high school speech teams in the state, and has won the state speech tournament eight times, including the last three years (2016, 2017, and 2018). The forensics students compete in contests during the regular season, which runs from November through March. Some of the students on the team have qualified to represent Kentucky at the two national tournaments, held this year in Fort Lauderdale and Washington, DC.
