This Week at the Library: December 18-23

The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Adult Storytime on Mondays at 9:00 a.m., Crafters Who Care on Mondays at 6:00 p.m., Coding Classes on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m., and Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:


Winter Reading Program
Begins Monday, December 18th

The Library will offer a Winter Reading Program beginning on Monday, December 18. The program is designed to encourage kids to keep reading over the school break, as well as provide a fun way for them to get to know their local library better.

Participants can pick up a Winter Reading Program bingo sheet at the library. The bingo sheet lists different activities to be completed. When enough of the activities are completed to get a bingo, the sheet can be turned in to the Children's Library where the child will receive a free book plus an entry for the Grand Prize drawing, giving them a chance to win a new sled. Participants will be able to earn an additional drawing entry if they complete all of the activities on the sheet.  (Limit one bingo sheet per person.)

The Winter Reading Program is for all youth ages (0-18 years) and will run through January 15, 2018.



Star Wars Party
Monday, December 18th at 4:00 p.m.

The Library will host a Star Wars Party on Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. featuring Star Wars-themed games, crafts, and snacks. Activities include a "Make Your Own Light Saber" station, a Jedi training obstacle course, a "Use the Force" challenge, and a Storm Trooper challenge. All tweens and teens are welcome to attend. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 9-18)



Storytime Visit with Santa
Tuesday, December 19th & Wednesday, December 20th at 11:00 a.m.

Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the Library during regularly scheduled Toddler, Preschool, and Homeschool Storytimes on Tuesday, December 19th and Wednesday, December 20th.


Toddler Storytime – Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Preschool Storytime – Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. & Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Homeschool Storytime – Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.



Third Thursday Book Discussion Groups
Thursday, December 21st at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The Boyle County Public Library offers a variety of book discussion groups each month, including the Third Thursday Morning and Evening Book Discussion Groups which meet at the Library on the third Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively. These groups are designed for anyone interested in discussing a wide variety of books in a group setting.

Both groups will meet on Thursday, December 21st. The Morning Discussion group, which is led by Diana Draper, will discuss The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan. The Evening Discussion group is led by Stephanie Donovan and will discuss The Christmas Train by David Baldacci. Those interested in participating in either group may pick up a copy of the book at the Circulation Desk in the Library.



Tween Lab
Thursday, December 21st at 4:00 p.m.

The Boyle County Public Library offers a monthly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) lab for tweens (ages 9-13) where they can try out a different experiment each month. On Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., tweens will making Snow Slime.
