This Week at the Library: December 10-16, 2017

The following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:



Tween Book Club
Monday, December 11th at 4:00 p.m.

The Library offers a monthly book club for tweens (ages 9-13). On Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., tweens can read and bring in any science fiction book to discuss with others while participating in themed activities. Snacks will be available.


DIY Holiday Workshop
Tuesday, December 12th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The Library will host a DIY Holiday Workshop on Tuesday afternoon. Teens will be able to make a variety or ornaments and crafts to give as gifts. A gift wrapping station will be available, and refreshments will be served. There is no charge to participate in this event, and the Library will provide all of the supplies. For ages 13 -18.


Gingerbread Zombies for Tweens
Thursday, December 14th at 4:00 p.m.

On Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., tweens are invited to put a fun twist on a classic holiday activity by decorating gingerbread cookies as zombies. For ages 9-13.


Star Wars Movie Marathon
Saturday, December 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, December 16th the Library will host a movie marathon featuring the original trilogy of the epic American space opera: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. In addition to watching the movies and munching on popcorn, movie-goers can help make decorations for the upcoming party celebrating the original trilogy. For ages 13 and up.


Second Monday Book Discussion Group
Monday, December 11th at 3:00 p.m.

The Second Monday Book Discussion Group meets on the second Monday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the Mahan House at the Library. Selections include fiction and historical fiction books set in locations around the world. On Monday, December 11, the group will discuss The Commoner by John Burnham Schwartz. Those interested in participating may register at the Circulation Desk in the Library.


Mahan Gallery Artist Reception
Mary Trollinger Photography
Monday, December 11th from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

The Library will host an artist reception for photographer Mary Trollinger on Monday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Mahan Gallery at the Library. The exhibit, which will be on display through mid-January, primarily focuses on macro nature photography, but also features landscape and architecture.

The Mahan Gallery features the artwork of area artists. The gallery is located just off the main floor of the Library in the Mahan House and is open to the public during regular Library hours.


Coloring & Conversation
Thursday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m.

The Library will host a coloring club for adults on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. Many adults have rediscovered the joys of coloring as a way to relax and combat stress. The club, which is done in partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension office, meets on the second Monday of the month in the Mahan Gallery.




In the ongoing effort to promote lifelong learning, the Library offers a wide variety of free computer classes throughout month. This week the Library is offering the following classes:

Internet Basics on Monday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m.

eMail Basics on Wednesday, December 13th at 2:00 p.m.




The Library will have a one-hour delayed opening on Friday, December 15, 2017. Doors will open to the public at 10:00 a.m.
