"Food for Fines" Program to be Offered at the Library

October 12, 2017

Starting October 23rd, the Boyle County Public Library will offer "Food for Fines," a program that gives patrons an opportunity to pay off their current fines with food donations. The donated food will be given to New Hope Food Pantry in Danville, KY.

Under the "Food for Fines" program, up to $10 per library card can be paid off with donations. Fine forgiveness applies only to current fines, and it will not apply to lost or damaged items, card replacements or future fines.

Each can or package of non-perishable food items will count as one dollar toward fines. There are a few guidelines for food donations:

• Items must be brought inside the Library and not put in the book drop.

• No open packages will be accepted.

• No re-packaged or expired foods will be accepted.

• No dented cans.

• No Ramen noodles (or noodles of a similar type).

Some of the top items New Hope Food Pantry is in need of are: canned peas, canned corn, canned mixed vegetables, canned meat (such as tuna, beef stew, chicken), peanut butter, and canned fruit.

Also welcome are any non-perishable items such as: cereal, dried beans, rice, pasta, soups, and crackers.

The "Food for Fines" program will run October 23-November 30, 2017
