This Week at the Library: October 1-7, 2017

The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Adult Storytime on Mondays at 9:00 a.m., Crafters Who Care on Mondays at 6:00 p.m., Coding Classes on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m., and Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:


Tween Advisory Group (TAG)
Monday, October 2nd at 4:00 p.m.

Tween Advisory Group will meet on Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. TAG provides a way for tweens to have fun planning events while volunteering their time at the library. This month participants will make What-to-Read fortune tellers. For more information about tween programs, see Ms. Kinsey Hisle in the Children's Library. For ages 9-13.

Mahan Gallery Artist Reception
Monday, October 2nd from 5:00-6:30 p.m.

The Boyle County Public Library will host a closing reception of "Railroad Art: Passing through Danville." This exhibit features photographs taken by Glenn A. Ball of train graffiti art that has passed through Danville. The closing reception will be held on Mondayevening from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Mahan Gallery at the Library.

The Mahan Gallery features the artwork of area artists. The gallery is located just off the main floor of the Library in the Mahan House and is open to the public during regular Library hours.


Tween Gaming
Friday, October 5th at 4:00 p.m.

The Library will host "Tween Gaming" on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Tweens (ages 9-13) are invited to come play an assortment of board games at the Library. Tweens are encouraged to bring their friends along with them to enjoy some friendly competition in a fun atmosphere. Snacks will be provided.


Cookbook Club
Thursday, October 5th at 6:00 p.m.

On Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. the Library will host the Cookbook Club. Each month will feature a different theme. In October the theme is Soups and Stews. Participants will make and share different recipes with the club. They'll hear what others liked about the cookbook and the recipe they tried, as well as taste-test samples and discover new recipes. Contact the Library for more information and to register. Registration is required.


Fall Film Series: Director's Showcase (Week 3)
Thursday, October 5th at 7:00 p.m.

The Friends of the Library continue with their annual Fall Film Series on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Films will be shown on Thursday evenings in the Community Room through mid-November. The post film discussion will be led by Charles Vahlkamp. Popcorn will be available and there is no charge for admission.

In this week's from 1951, a frustrated former big-city reporter now stuck working for a much smaller newspaper tries who to revive his career by exploiting a story about a man trapped in a cave.


Friday, October 6th at 4:00 p.m.

The Library will host LEGO Club on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the Storytime Room. The finished LEGO creations will be placed on display in the Children's Library.


Computer Classes

In the ongoing effort to promote lifelong learning, the Library offers a wide variety of free computer classes throughout month. This week the Library is offering the following classes:

Computer Basics on Tuesday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m.

Staying Safe Online on Thursday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m.

A complete listing of monthly computer classes can be found on the Library's website. Those interested in attending any of the classes may register online or by calling the Library. In addition to these classes, one-on-one computer support is also available by appointment.
