Library to Host Showing of Local Documentary
On Thursday, February 9th at 7:00 p.m., the Library will host a showing of Eli Scarr's documentary "My Ancestral Kentucky Home with James Sleet". In this 30-minute documentary, James Sleet visits his ancestral home of Sleettown, a community established by freed slaves in Boyle County after the Civil War.
"While researching Native American and African-American genealogy is challenging," says Scarr, "the persistence of Kentuckians like James Sleet to document their personal histories and Kentucky heritage will prove invaluable to future generations. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with someone aware of how our ancestors' emphasis on education continues to provide insight into today's world."
Sleet and Scarr will be available following the film to answer questions. This event will be held in the Community Room.
