Friends of the Library Fall Film Series: Campaigns, Politics & Presidents

September 28, 2016

The Friends of the Library Fall Film Series kicks off on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 7:00 pm in the Community Room at the Boyle County Public Library. This film series, Campaigns, Politics & Presidents, will take us behind the scenes of several political campaigns -- some presidential, some not. Although not necessarily known for dealing straightforwardly with controversial subjects, Hollywood filmmakers have nevertheless given us various fictional glances at the inner workings of the political system and of the presidency. Two of the works selected for this series will deal with the presidency itself.

The first four films have been chosen in part because they were produced in different decades, one each from the 1940s, ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. The last two are both from the 1990s. As we look at these films, we may be able to place them in a historical context or perhaps see them as evidence of an evolving system.

The films, which feature well known directors and award-winning actors, will be introduced each evening by Charles Vahlkamp, professor emeritus at Centre College. There is no charge for admission, and free popcorn will be available. The film series will run on most Thursday evenings through November 3, 2016. An interpreter for the deaf is available upon request by contacting the Library 48-hours in advance at 859-238-7323.

Due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to list the film titles online. However, the descriptions of the films are listed below, and inquiring minds can find out what movies will be shown by either visiting or calling the Library.
